Finding the Perfect Kitchen Table
Its been over a year since we moved into our new home already! How time flies when you have fun! Well it wasn't all fun, I had to recover from it for a bit, but I am back and grateful for it.
We all love our house and the neighborhood. The views are amazing, we have turkeys and other wildlife that we can watch frequently (coyotes, we saw a tarantula the other day, deer, owls, eagles and other birds). What always gets me going are our amazing sunrises. Every morning I get to enjoy them from our bedroom. I get a boost of energy when watching the sun come up and the sky change its colors.
I definitely have applied a lot of energy on making this house more cozy and functional for all of us.
When we moved in, we had our basic furniture, but knowing this house was so much larger (over 1000 sqf larger) I had to invest in some more pieces over time.
It was important to me not to rush too much. I like things neat and ready but furnishing a house is a process that takes time. The reward will be so much bigger if you take your time until you find that perfect piece that fits best to your life style.
My patience paid off when searching for something different for our kitchen.
When we moved in, I had invested in three nice counter stools for our large island. They served us well for quick breakfasts, but never were we able to sit down as a family of 4. I was lucky to be gifted a farmhouse table and 4 chairs that were sitting in a friends garage. I immediately jumped on the project and repainted them with ASCP to make them look like new and charming at the same time.
They served us well for almost a full year, but I had had something else in mind for our kitchen dining area but couldn't quite figure out what I wanted. So I began searching for images and inspirations on Pinterest.
I loved this idea of a half circle island that you could fold under by removing the leg of the table. For a long time I thought this is it!

But I also liked something like the above picture.
One day I was on RH, and found exactly what I wanted:
This island is a great addition to the existing counter, it compliments the color of the granite and integrates really well, yet gives the room a casual look. The turkish, reclaimed wood is soft and old, I don't have to worry about scratches or wear and tear, because that will actually enhance the beauty of this farmhouse island over time.
I am absolutely in love and will post pictures soon.
